The newly developed, back-illuminated Exmor RTM full-frame 12.1 megapixel effective CMOS sensor offers up to twice the readout speed of the α7S II, plus high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. An extended colour filter array provides accurate colour reproduction, while focal plane AF phase detection significantly improves autofocus stability and precision. All this contributes to excellent image quality. The BIONZ XRTM image processor is eight times more powerful than the previous processor. Latency has been minimised and real-time processing for videos and photos has been significantly improved. The processor provides real-time AF processing, image recognition and image quality adjustments, and also handles data transfer, user interface and other camera operations. The 12.1 megapixel full-frame configuration enables high sensitivity with low noise throughout the camera's sensitivity range by optimizing the output signal from the sensor. The standard ISO range is 80 to 102400 and can be extended to 40 to 409600 (80 to 409600 for video). The camera can take internal 4K shots with 10-bit image depth and 4:2:2 colour sampling using either Long-GOP or All-Intra compression.
